North Devon Shopmobility

North Devon Shopmobility commenced operation in June 1997. It offers the use of scooters, manual and powered wheelchairs to those with mobility problems who wish to access Barnstaple shops and for other town centre facilities.

There is a £10 annual membership fee (or £5 temporary membership) and we will require a £4 deposit which will be kept as a donation unless you specifically request the money back. If you are a tax payer and have not already signed a Gift Aid form please asks one of the team for info.

New clients are given a quick training session, by one of the volunteers or a member of staff, on how to use the scooter or wheelchair safely within the accessible town centre. Two forms of identification with name and address on are needed when first registering.

Limited car parking facilities are available adjacent to the centre and a permit will be issued when you arrive.

For those clients who need extra assistance with wheelchairs, volunteers can be provided to push or escort the client around the town centre for some shopping. Booking is essential for this service and subject to volunteer availability.

A Sighted Guide Service for the benefit of people with little or no sight is in operation.
A team of volunteers will provide this service to anyone with a visual impairment, in and around the town centre of Barnstaple.

The long term hire of manual wheelchairs and portable scooters for weekends and holidays are also available. Two forms of identification with name and address are required when booking.
