Transport to Health (also known as Single Point of Contact (SPOC)

Patients attending North Devon District Hospital and other community Hospitals are expected to meet their own transport needs to and from the hospitals. Those requiring transport information and journeys should contact the Transport to Health office who can advise on transport opportunities in their areas

SPOC was set up in September 2005 in conjunction with NHS Devon (formerly known as North Devon Primary Care Trust). The Transport to Health service is available Monday to Friday 9.30 am to 4.00 pm. Telephone 01271 314332

The key objectives of SPOC are:

• To provide the patients of North Devon with a SPOC to access a range of transport services.
• To reduce / eliminate the burden on general practice of arranging patient transport.
• To ensure that patients are only offered NHS provided transport if there is a real health need as defined by the eligibility criteria.

GND continues to work closely with NHS Devon and the North Devon Healthcare Trust towards developing improvements and flexibility in the whole transport to health framework.
