Shopmobility offers the use of scooters, manual and powered wheelchairs to those with reduced mobility to enable them to access all the facilities in Barnstaple town centre.
For those clients who require extra assistance with their wheelchair, or with their shopping, volunteer escorts can be provided. Likewise sighted guides are available should they be required. Both of these services must be booked in advance and are subject to the availability of volunteers.
New clients will receive a quick training session on the safe and effective use of the wheelchair or scooter within the town centre. We have a designated practice area. Car parking facilities are available adjacent to the centre and a permit will be issued when you arrive.
Compulsory membership of the Shopmobility Scheme is required and fees do apply. Please enquire when you telephone to reserve a wheelchair or scooter. New members are required to provide two forms of identification with their name and address.
Long term hire of manual wheelchairs and portable scooters for weekends and holidays is possible.
With Local Authority Grant aid diminishing, North Devon's Shopmobility service is at real risk of closure. Read our Save Our Shopmobility press release to find out more and how you can help.
