Find out more about our Shopmobility service

The Team at Go North Devon are delighted to announce the Shopmobility service resumed on 6th July 2020 on an appointment system, with new opSening times and procedures that will ensure the absolute safety of our clients, staff and volunteers.  Please read our Shopmobilty Covid-19 protocols to find out more.

Shopmobility opening times are Monday to Friday 09.15am-2.30pm (Closed Bank Holidays)

In the event of staff shortages the Shopmobility Centre will be closed for a brief period at lunchtime.   You will be advised of the lunchtime closing times when making your booking.

All Shopmobility equipment must be returned to the Shopmobility Centre by 2.20pm

Shopmobility offers the use of scooters, manual and powered wheelchairs to those with reduced mobility to enable them to access all the facilities in Barnstaple town centre.

For those clients who require extra assistance with their wheelchair, or with their shopping, volunteer escorts can be provided. Likewise sighted guides are available should they be required. Both of these services must be booked in advance and are subject to the availability of volunteers.

New clients will receive a quick training session on the safe and effective use of the wheelchair or scooter within the town centre. We have a designated practice area. Car parking facilities are available adjacent to the centre and a permit will be issued when you arrive.

Compulsory membership of the Shopmobility Scheme is required and fees do apply. Please enquire when you telephone to reserve a wheelchair or scooter. New members are required to provide two forms of identification with their name and address.

Long term hire of manual wheelchairs and portable scooters for weekends and holidays is possible.
